School and Sports Physicals
Is the beginning of the school year approaching faster than you anticipated? Have the sports physicals snuck up on you just before your children's sport and activity begins?

There's always a chance of getting hurt no matter which sport your child or teen participates in, whether it's soccer, football, baseball, or martial arts. It is recommended that every child or teen who participates in a sport should get a sports physical at least once a year.

At StatMD Urgent Care, we offer extended hours for your convenience on weekdays, weekends, and holidays so you can bring your children in for school, camp, and sports physicals. Located in Bakersfield, CA, our comprehensive physicals assure you that your children are in good health and ready to compete.
What Are the Benefits of a Physical?
A sports physical allows healthcare professionals to detect conditions that could keep athletes out of the game or impair their performance. Sports physicals are recommended for students and adults who are actively involved in:
-
School or interleague sports programs
-
Club sports teams
-
New fitness regimens

What Are the Different Types of Physicals?
For children and teens, schools often mandate undergoing a physical before taking part in sports, camps, or other school activities. Likewise, a physical examination for adults may be part of a routine annual checkup or a pre-employment requirement. It can be used to establish whether a candidate is physically capable of performing the job. Moreover, physical examinations by the Department of Transportation are also required to ensure the safe operation of trucks and buses.

At StatMD Urgent Care, we offer a variety of physicals, including:
General physical (for adults)
School physical
College sports physical
Camp physical
Sports physical
School physical
What to Expect During a Sports Physical?
Sports physicals are used to assess an athlete's overall health, current fitness level, injury risk, and physical well-being. The two main parts of a sports physical are the medical history and the physical exam.

-
Medical History – This includes a form with questions about your medical history. The clinician will inquire about your health, the health of your family, your medical concerns, and the medications you take. When filling out this form, it's best to be upfront and honest.
-
Physical Exam - By analyzing your appearance, the examiner might discover a lot about your health. They may look for evidence of mental acuity, evaluate your skin's condition, or even watch you stand or walk. The doctor will also usually:

-
Record your height and weight
-
Check your blood pressure and pulse (heart rate and rhythm)
-
Test your vision
-
Check your heart and lungs
-
Examine your muscles, bones, and joints
Do I Have to Take My Clothes off for a Physical?
Depending on the type of physical exam, you may or may not be required to take off your clothes.

What Should You Not Do Before a Physical Exam?

When you go in for a physical test, you don't want to do anything that can momentarily impact your body's performance. As such, here are some things to avoid before the exam:
-
Don't come in dehydrated
-
Skip high-fat foods before having your blood drawn
-
Avoid caffeinated drinks and medications
